Music at BLC

Lutherans have always been known for their musical ministry, as noted by Garrison Keillor, and the many fine Lutheran College Choirs. BLC is no exception as we have had an adult choir for many years. Even during the rebuilding years after the tornado of 1984, the choir got together for practices in members' homes and participated at services, whether held at the Masonic Lodge or West Blue Mounds Lutheran Church. For many years in the 1960-70s era, Barb Arneson had a junior choir with robes and all, which complimented the senior choir.

Now we have a fine array of musical support, ranging from our Rodgers electric organ, with its many features including chimes, to the Yamaha upright piano, which has been used for choir accompanying, to our newly acquired Yamaha "Clavinova" Keyboard with its many new sounds, and lastly, a fine set of Malmark Hand Bells. All of these instruments are valuable assets in our Music Ministry but they lack an equally valuable and essential asset - YOU - as a singing participant in our choir or as an active bell player.

We are blessed with several gifted members of the congregation to play for our services but the adult choir could use more singers. We have a well rounded music library of over 200 musical numbers to choose from. You need not be professional, certainly those presently singing are not but they enjoy sharing their Christian love with song. All voices, soprano, alto, tenor and bass/baritone are needed and would be welcomed. Won't you join us? Presently, we meet on the 2nd & 4th Sundays at 8:15 AM to run through an easy number or anthem to sing during the service. For more information, contact Julie Reese.

We are also looking for an organist and/or full time choir director. Please contact Joanne Manteufel for more information.
